Scholarships in Netherland
For overseas students, the University of Amsterdam (UvA) offers a number of scholarships. Some of the major scholarship opportunities are as follows:
1. The Amsterdam Merit Scholarship
(AMS) is intended for gifted students who have been admitted to a Master’s degree at the University of Virginia, but are not citizens of the European Economic Area (EEA).
The University of Amsterdam Merit Scholarship 2025-2026 is open to international students for masters studies. Depending on the faculty, University of Amsterdam scholarship can vary between €2,000 –€25,000.

Eligibility:
- Non-EEA nationality
- Outstanding academic performance (top 10% of their class)
- Completely accepted into the University of Virginia’s English-taught Master’s program
- Not eligible for a loan or grant for study in the Netherlands
- Honor: Although the scholarship can vary, it usually pays for living expenses as well as tuition.
- Application: After completing the Master’s program application, students must apply separately for scholarships to the appropriate faculty members.
2. The AES, or Amsterdam Excellence Scholarship
The AES is a highly esteemed full scholarship that provides living and tuition support for a single academic year, with the option to extend for an additional year in the case of two-year Master’s programs.
Eligibility:
- Nationality not in the EEA
- Outstanding academic standing and ranking in the top ten percent of their class
- Accepted into a Master’s program at the University of Amsterdam taught in English; award: €25,000 to cover living expenses and tuition.
- Application: The Graduate Schools’ separate Admissions Offices must receive applications.
3.Holland Scholarship
The Holland Scholarship is intended for foreign students from outside the European Economic Area who wish to pursue a bachelor’s or master’s degree in the Netherlands. It is funded by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science.
Eligibility:
- Nationality not in the EEA
- Enrolling in a full-time UvA bachelor’s or master’s program
- Fulfilling the program’s specified requirements
- Award: €5,000 for the first year of studies.
- Application: Apply directly to the UvA programme of choice, then submit a separate application for the Holland Scholarship.
4.Academic Scholarships
At the University of Amsterdam, numerous departments and faculties provide their own unique scholarships for students from abroad. Among the instances are:
Outstanding Master’s students in the social sciences are eligible for the Graduate School of Social Sciences Merit Scholarship.
Master’s students in related subjects can apply for scholarships at the Graduate School of Child Development and Education.
5.UvA scholarship
The UvA will give one scholarship worth half the tuition, or €12,500 for the 2024–2025 academic year, to a student enrolled in this program. The student who has the most potential for being an active participant in the program will get this scholarship.

6.Maisto e Associati scholarship
For the 2023–2024 academic year, Maisto e Associati is offering a scholarship worth €10,500 for the new advanced LLM in International Tax Law. The funding available for the 2024–2025 academic year has not yet been disclosed.
